The project’s location, in the center Stavanger’s preserved wooden house district, produces interesting architectural challenges. With this as a starting point, the project attempts to weave together vernacular and contemporary architecture.
The building, which consists of 14 dwellings and 2 rental office units has a much higher density than the surrounding old houses.
We shaped the building and organized the dwelling units to give all dwellings an orientation towards the nearby city lake and, at the same time, create a rhythm that plays together with the historic houses across the street. Split pitched roofs with roof terraces in between and twisted façade panes breaks up the large volume. The wooden cladding on facades and roof weaves the volume together visually and integrates it into the neighborhood.
